Process Overview:
Hydrochloric acid is crucial for the pickling of ferrous metals, where rust (iron oxides) reacts with the acid to form ferrous chloride. Typically, an 18% acid solution is used for pickling; however, as the process continues, the acid concentration decreases to about 5-6%, leading to an increase in ferrous chloride concentration. Disposing of this spent acid can be challenging.
Our Hydrochloric Acid Regeneration Plant efficiently reconverts ferrous chloride back into ferric oxide and HCl gas at temperatures of approximately 900°C. The generated gases are then cooled, and the HCl vapors are dissolved in water in a tray column, producing a concentrated solution of 17-18% Hydrochloric Acid. The residual gases undergo further polishing to ensure HCl content is reduced to permissible atmospheric levels.
